Autumn 2024 Newsletter

Autumn Newsletter                                                                         September 24

Welcome to the Autumn programme. The writing groups are developing, a new all women band is practicing in the Salon, the garden studio’s are full of creative projects and the garden is green and enjoying the autumn rain, squeezing out a few last rays of autumn colour.

The Primadonna Festival, primadonnafestival.com was a wonderful writing event,  great talks and inspiring female writers sharing work and ideas. The weekend, 28th July was perfect weather. Check out their website for guests and workshops 2024. The festival is hosted by the Food Museum Stowmarket. A lovely open green space with food huts, tents and outside stage. A lovely friendly atmosphere and we will be going again next year. We will be going back next year in July, and offering some workshop, more on that later in the year.

This term we are  having Sunday workshops for novice to experienced writers, to develop ideas, writing styles, share life experiences and start new projects.

Anthology

From the many wonderful pieces written over the year, we will be selecting work to be published in our Christmas Wishing Tree House Anthology. So be sure to finish the piece you started and email it to us. Poems, stories or first chapters, max 2.000 words.

Our first workshop on Memoir resulted in new perspectives on familiar experiences. Finding a first sentence which leads the reader into trouble, is a great hook for taking the direct route to an issue. Then finding the last sentence, which reframes the journey, brings the reader to a new landscape and surprise.

In October we will be adventuring into Sci Fi. Any of the uncanny or surreal experiences we have on Earth can be relocated into Magic Realism (Harry Potter) Sci fi (Kubrick 2001)

The exciting infinity of using our imagination in bringing new landscapes to life knows not bounds!

17th `November, invites women to look at our voices in the press. How we write about news, womens rights and supporting girls voices. See Hastings Independent Press for our WOH page, every third issue, and join us in writing articles for the paper.

Finally our December workshop will explore endings and beginnings, of all kinds in our lives, focussing on writing plans for 2025.
